Safety Requirements
1. All pullers must wear closed toe shoes, shirt, long pants, and DOT approved helmet. We highly recommend a flame resistant suit of SFI3.2A/1 minimum, for all unlimited rpm classes.
2. Other than (stock) tractors, all tractors are required to have safety equipment to prevent turnovers. This device is to have wheels or skid plates. Wheels are recommended to be at least 1” wide and 5” in diameter. Any wheels other than the stated size shall be subject to tech approval. Skid plates to have at least 3 sq. in. at ground contact point. Wheels or skid plates must be no less than 5” behind the rear of the tires and not more than 5” above the ground. The device must be able to support the weight of the tractor. No more than ¼” variance +or-. All stock tractors without wheels or skid plates will have a track official walk along with the tractor during the pull for added safety.
3. Other than (stock) tractors, all tractors are required to have a breakaway safety switch. The switch is to be capable of killing the engine’s ignition and electric fuel pump (for tractors equipped) should the tractor break free from the sled. *Diesel tractors shall have a spring operated air shutoff device. Breakaway switch shall be located within 6” of the rear center of tractor and be easy to attach.
4. All unlimited RPM tractors are required to have a minimum of 1lb. dry chemical or co2 fire extinguisher with gauge.
5. No pressurized fuels or tanks. No nitrous oxide. No oxidizing additives.
6. In the event a pull is held with alky classes offered. Only US Federal Grade A or AA methanol will be acceptable.
7. Stock tractors will run pump gas only. All other gas tractors must meet .750 specific gravity standard.
8. Diesel tractors may run any variety of diesel fuel.
9. All tractors must have a hood grill and fenders adequate to protect the driver.
10. All tractors shall have some type of stable footrest.
11. All pulleys belts and shafts shall be shielded, with the exception of starter generator belt. Shields shall be made of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum.
12. All clutches and or flywheels are to be covered 360 degrees. Unlimited RPM tractors will have shields constructed of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum.
13. Unlimited RPM single cylinder engines will have a scatter shield opposite the cam side of the motor. The shield must being made of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum. The shield will cover full length of the block and attach securely to the frame and head or head plate.
14. Unlimited RPM V-twin cylinder engines will have scatter shields located on the external side of the cylinders. The shields must be made of 1/8” steel or 3/16” aluminum. The shields will extend from head gaskets to frame. Shields must attach to the frame at the bottom and to the flywheel shield at the top to make it rigid.
15. All starter pulleys and external counter weights must be made of billet steel or aluminum. Pulleys must have retaining device to prevent the pulley or weight from coming off the shaft.
16. Engine Dampers must meet SFI spec 18.1 requirements. A grade 8 or better bolt is required to secure the damper to crankshaft.
17. All unlimited rpm tractors must have billet steel flywheels. NO exceptions.
18. No one shall operate any cast flywheel in excess of 4000 rpms. No altering cast flywheels in any way.
19. Throttles, all unlimited rpm tractors are required to have a dead man style throttle. A dead man style throttle is one designed to return to idle when not being applied. Mod Stock tractors may use a stock or dead man style throttle. Stock tractors, stock throttle only.
20. Diesel tractors engines are required to have a 3/16” steel cable with a minimum of (2) two clamps. The cable should encircle the engine in a manner as to prevent the cylinder head from flying off in the event of head and block separation.
21. Diesel engines shall have a cross welded in the exhaust pipe after the outlet from the turbocharger. This to help prevent impeller blades from being thrown out in the event of an exhaust turbine failure.
